AI for Independent and Healthy Aging

This use case explores the development of AI-driven assistive technologies designed to improve the autonomy, communication, and emotional well-being of individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in their daily lives. The goal is to leverage artificial intelligence to create systems that adapt dynamically to each person’s cognitive and sensory profile, supporting both independence and social inclusion.

These intelligent systems integrate multimodal sensors (such as cameras, microphones, and wearables) with machine learning and affective computing models to recognize behavioral patterns, emotional states, and contextual cues. For example, AI can detect signs of stress or sensory overload and respond through calming strategies—adjusting lighting, suggesting breathing exercises, or alerting caregivers.

Another key component involves personalized communication tools powered by natural language processing (NLP) and predictive modeling. These tools assist users in understanding and expressing emotions, managing social interactions, or planning daily routines through adaptive interfaces that evolve with continued use
