3D Reconstruction and Digital Preservation of Cultural Heritage Sites
At RoVIT, we focus on the 3D reconstruction and digital preservation of cultural heritage sites through advanced computer vision and immersive technologies. Our work aims to document, preserve, and make accessible valuable cultural environments that may be at risk due to time, environmental factors, or human activity.
Using cutting-edge techniques such as Gaussian Splatting, we generate photorealistic 3D representations of real environments from sets of regular RGB images. This method allows for highly detailed reconstructions that capture not only geometry but also subtle textures and lighting conditions, achieving a faithful visual reproduction of heritage spaces.
To enhance public engagement and educational impact, we integrate these reconstructions into virtual reality (VR) experiences, enabling users to immerse themselves in the reconstructed environments. Through VR headsets, visitors can explore cultural sites interactively, fostering preservation awareness and providing new possibilities for research, tourism, and education.
